Vegas police want Ronaldo's DNA for alleged rape in 2009

Ronaldo's lawyer, Peter S. Christiansen, issued a statement on behalf of the Portugal global, saying: "Mr. Ronaldo has always maintained, as he does today, that what occurred in Las Vegas in 2009 was consensual in nature, so it is not surprising that DNA would be present, nor that the police would make this very standard request as part of their investigation".

Ronaldo, for his part, has "firmly" denied the allegations, claiming his encounter with Mayorga was consensual.

Detectives reopened the case previous year after Kathryn Mayorga filed a lawsuit alleging Ronaldo raped her in 2009.

The dress Mayorga was wearing on the night of the alleged rape in 2009 is a key piece of evidence in the case.

The news comes several weeks after it was revealed that Ronaldo admitted Mayorga did not give him verbal consent numerous times during the incident.

Lennard, 33, called the footballer "a psychopath" in now-deleted tweets, in which she pledged to assist the woman who has accused Ronaldo of rape.

Ronaldo firmly denies the claims and is offering police full cooperation, including providing a DNA sample, U.S. news outlet TMZ Sports reports, citing sources close to the player.

The police case was closed in 2009 when the alleged victim, Kathryn Mayorga, declined to name her assailant.

Jasmine Lennard, an English model and actress, posted on her Twitter account that she has years worth of messages that would back up her claims that Ronaldo was abusive, and unrepentant about his behavior, towards her and other women.

On the same day Mayorga says she was raped, she went to the police to report it and had a rape kit done.

Authorities in Las Vegas would then determine whether it matches genetic material found on Mayorga's dress.

She said she wanted the agreement to be declared void, explaining that she had gained the courage to speak out because of the #MeToo movement.
