Manchester United's Jose Mourinho has tense training encounter with Paul Pogba

Mourinho denied any falling out with Pogba when confirming the decision, but Sky Sports' footage from training the following morning suggested all is not well.

'He feels that no player should be bigger than the club and what appeared to be a branding exercise - making it about Paul Pogba and not United - did not impress him'.

Mourinho has been openly critical of his star midfielder in recent times, saying that his work rate isn't up to standard.

Former United defender Gary Neville hit out at Woodward for not backing Mourinho in the summer, claiming Woodward should have "shown faith" in his manager and signed a centre-back, particularly after rewarding him with a new contract in January.

United, whose squad includes World Cup victor Paul Pogba, David de Gea and Alexis Sanchez, said revenue is expected to be between 615 million pounds and 630 million pounds in the year to next June.

Manchester United have had a tough start to the season and this defeat will increase the pressure on Jose Mourinho.

"It's not me. I'm not the manager, I can not, like, say that, but obviously we should show more options of playing".

After resting Pogba from the team knocked out of the League Cup by second-tier Derby County on Tuesday - another blow in United's underwhelming season - Mourinho announced he had also stripped the France midfielder of the vice-captaincy.

"The players were happy with that decision and the reasons behind the manager's decision", the source added.

At the last count, Pogba has captained the Red Devils in three games, but the Portuguese insists it does not look good for a player eyeing a move away to captain the club. The players were superb against Brentford and they deserved the chance to play at Old Trafford.

The Manchester United manager cited the German philosopher Georg Hegel earlier this month and he may be mindful of one of his quotes when it comes to his relationship with Pogba.

However, according to Tuttosport, Pogba has decided he wants to return to the club he spent four seasons at between 2012 and 2016, Juventus.

United drew 1-1 at home to Wolves on Saturday and have so far collected only 10 of 18 available points, with back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Tottenham in August having put Mourinho's future under the spotlight.

Before the first Derby County penalty was taken, the United manager spoke to Lampard.
