New Gunners boss Unai Emery is confident his new No. 1 can deliver the goods at the Emirates, praising his high quality and the experience he brings to the club. The Gunners have needed a new goalkeeper for a number of years and they have signed one who has been highly rated in Germany for many years.

Arsenal are closing in on the £48 million double signing of Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno and Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira as new manager Unai Emery continues to overhaul the defensive spine of his squad.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere said on Tuesday that he was leaving the Premier League club after 17 years, while the north London side earlier announced that Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno was moving to north London.

"In Germany, Arsenal are so famous and when I heard it (transfer), I was a little bit nervous, but at that moment it was clear for me: I wanted to sign for Arsenal".

And after Arsenal confirmed the signing of Leno on Tuesday night, the same report says that a deal for Uruguay worldwide Torreira is now "close" as the Gunners look to significantly strengthen their squad ahead of Emery's first campaign in charge.

"Given this, I feel I have no option but to pursue other opportunities in order to progress my career on the pitch".

The 22-year-old was one of Serie A's top breakout stars last season, standing out for his versatile skill set.

"Bernd has consistently performed well for our club over the years and has become a national player here". Arsenal, because the club has always focused on young footballers.
