Senegal got Africa's first win at the World Cup after beating Poland 2-1.

"We are not too euphoric because we do know there is going to be a hard match against Japan", Senegal coach Aliou Cisse said.

Poland, who are now ranked eight in FIFA rankings, will take on Senegal, who will be returning to the FIFA World Cup after a gap of 16 years.

"It's always hard when you let in simple goals, especially the second", he said. It's a speedy, confident side and they proved on Tuesday that it can make even more noise in this tourney.

"We are Senegal but I can guarantee the whole of Africa is supporting the Senegal team".

Sadly for Poland, he was a split second late, allowing Niang to dink it past him and tap into an empty net.

Poland improved after the restart with Robert Lewandowski seeing a 25-yard free kick punched clear by Khadim N'Diaye, but Senegal were not prepared to sit back with Mane becoming increasing involved in the final third.

Cisse conceded there was an element of luck as Senegal benefited from a deflected Thiago Cionek own goal and a bad error by 'keeper Wojciech Szczesny, but said the Polish mistakes came through pressure exerted by his team.

Compounding the worries for African supporters is that, aside from Senegal, the continent's five teams largely aren't scoring. He tees up Gueye who rifles a low shot from the top of the box, it takes a wicked deflection off Cionek, wrong-footing the goalkeeper and ending up in the back of the net. The football fans who cheered from the stadiums celebrated the win but also remembered to show humility after the match.

"We simply lacked quality in the first half", he said.

Krychowiak sent a long ball back from deep inside the Senegal half, Szczesny rushed out of his area to collect the pass but Niang stole in to score to Polish disbelief. Videos Bristling with pace and force, the Senegalese imposed themselves on the game before Robert Lewandowski's Poland could shake off their slumber.
