What's more, Uew Michael - Porsche's head of Electrics/Electronics Development - recently said that the Taycan will be able to charge twice as fast as a Model S. Specifically, Michael said that a high-voltage superchargers will be able to give the Taycan 250 miles of range in less than 20 minutes. (It's a reference to the company's logo, with includes a leaping steed at its center.) "Our new electric sports auto is strong and dependable; it's a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomizes freedom", said Porsche chairman Oliver Blume in a statement.

Porsche's first all-electric vehicle will wear a "Taycan" badge when it goes on sale one year from now, the German automaker announced early June.

The vehicle is expected to have a range of over 250 miles.

The Taycan is the company's first all-electric vehicle globally and yes, it's coming to India too. Elon Musk is well known for talking up the speed of cars like the Model S, but Porsche has voiced some skepticism about just how long the potent Tesla can keep that up on the track.

The Porsche Taycan is the name Porsche has chosen for the production take on its Mission E electric auto. Porsche US plans to install 500 such chargers across the US by the end of 2019. Porsche claims a maximum range of over 500 km for the Tesla Model S rival.

Porsche say you won't need to spend half an hour "conditioning" the Taycan to get that performance and, as long as you have juice to play with, the Taycan will keep on delivering its power.

The future of mobility is another step closer: Series production of the first purely electric Porsche is set to begin next year.

Already, the company has committed more than $3.5 billion (3 billion Euros) to electrifying its fleet, but Porsche added that it would invest a further $3.5 billion beyond the original amount.

The Mission E concept generates almost 600bhp via a lithium-ion battery and two electric motors, one on each axle. Production of the Taycan is creating around 1,200 new jobs in Zuffenhausen alone. The engine plant is being expanded to manufacture electric motors.
