A senior British government source said that Russian Federation needs to change its approach before any conversation about it rejoining the G7 can begin.

The US president had earlier called for Russian Federation - which was suspended from the group in 2014, following Moscow's annexation of Crimea, and made a decision to leave permanently in 2017 - to be readmitted in the interests of realpolitik.

While Donald Trump is in Canada getting the cold shoulder from G7 leaders, Russian President Vladimir Putin is receiving accolades in China.

"We believe that such personal meetings are expedient and not only possible".

Tusk warned that "the rules-based global order is being challenged, quite surprisingly not by the usual suspects but by its main architect and guarantor, the United States".

What did President Trump say?

"The president will travel directly to Singapore from Canada in anticipation of his upcoming meeting with North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un Tuesday", White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders said in a statement.

"Tensions mount. This G7 will be demanding", President Macron tweeted.

Russian Federation should be attending a Group of Seven summit in Canada, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday, a controversial idea that even Moscow seemed to reject, as he headed for a chilly reception at the meeting where other leaders are set to clash with him over trade.

"Looking forward to straightening out unfair Trade Deals with the G-7 countries".

And at the same time, the USA president seems more at home with autocrats than with Washington's traditional allies.

But Mr Trump predicted the G7 countries would agree on a joint statement after holding talks with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

China is mired in tough negotiations with the United States to avoid a trade war, while Moscow has deep differences with Washington on multiple diplomatic fronts, including Syria and Ukraine.

"We have massive trade deficits with nearly every country". He declared, "We have to straighten it out". And I'll tell you what, it's what I do. "If it doesn't happen, we come out even better!", he states.

Trump joined the leaders of major industrialized nations in an idyllic Canadian resort town after days of escalating conflict over new U.S. tariffs he slapped on imports of steel and aluminum.

"Whether you like it or not - and it may not me politically correct - but we have a world to run..." In New York, the Dow dipped in early trade.

In response to the April 9 gas attack in Syria that killed more than 80 innocent civilians, President Trump took to Twitter in a display of rage to blame Russian Federation.

Australia's allies are meeting in Canada, but things aren't well in the west. Later the leaders were to tuck into a dinner of lobster, asparagus and maple leaves nestled on a brioche at the end of the first day of talks. Picture: EPALeaders of an array of G7 nations pose for a photo.
