The UFC is in Chicago for today's UFC 225 event.

New Zeland's Robert Whittaker (185) has made championship weight to meet Yoel Romero in one of the Ultimate Fighting Championship's biggest pay-per-views in 2018 to date.

Later, though, despite Romero missing weight on his second attempt, UFC boss Dana White confirmed that the main event will go ahead. He will maintain the belt, win or lose.

The path to UFC 225 has been winding, to say the least.

"It's very hard. We come here to fight for the title", Romero said. Romero earned a third-round KO victory as a plus-150 underdog, but was deemed ineligible to claim the belt after failing to make weight.

Whittaker (19-4) became the interim champion just under a year ago with his gruelling unanimous decision victory over Romero (13-2).

Illness forced him out of his first scheduled title defence in Perth in February - and Romero took his place, setting up the rematch with a devastating knockout win.

"There wouldn't be a fight", Whittaker said.

As well, former WWE superstar CM Punk makes his first octagon appearance in nearly two years as he takes on fellow welterweight Mike Jackson as a plus-175 underdog, while Holly Holm vies for a second win in six fights as she takes on Megan Anderson as a minus-225 favourite in a clash of women's featherweights.

"The main event is on".

"I don't think he can change that drastically at his age and in this little amount of time before the fight", he said.

Australian Megan Anderson and her featherweight opponent - former bantamweight world champion Holly Holm - each logged the same weight.
