Liverpool fans' hopes of signing Barcelona's Samuel Umtiti this summer in a mega deal have been scuppered as the top-quality centre-back has finally signed a new deal with the Catalan club. He'll sign his new deal in Barcelona on Monday and will likely join up again with Les Bleus shortly after. "From the first day here in Barcelona I felt at home and now I want to stay 15 years".

Umtiti added: "I'm nervous today because this is a dream that continues".

"I just said the word 'joker.' I don't know how that word is interpreted [in Spain], but you can interpret it as you wish". With the city and the team, I've earned everyone's trust. That's why I'm not going to leave. I am not here for the money - it's important but I am here to win trophies.

The 24-year-old is now regarded as one of the best central defenders in Europe, therefore his buyout clause - which was deemed much lower than his true valuation - has prompted Barca to act.

In his debut season he lifted the Copa del Rey, a feat he repeated in 2017-18 along with La Liga as Barcelona completed a domestic double in Spain.

Sergio Busquets is also in line for a new contract but Barcelona will now turn their attention to bringing in new players.

He said of his France teammate: "I talk a lot with Griezmann, but not on this subject". (We speak about), Playstation, food, but not about this.
