The United Nations, Western nations and Saudi Arabia say Iran supplies the Houthis with long-range missiles capable of reaching Riyadh.

Trump, echoing Riyadh and Abu Dhabi's stance, has criticized the accord, known by its acronym JCPOA, because it does not address Iran's ballistic missile program, its nuclear activities beyond 2025, or its role in regional wars. Since the conservative Sunni kingdom maintains Tehran is backing the militia in Yemen, the Saudi official said the strikes amounted to a "declaration of war".

A spokesman for the Houthi-aligned military Col. Aziz Rashed told Al-Masirah that the attack marked "a new phase" and was revenge for Saudi airstrikes on Yemen after a coalition air raid last month killed the Houthis' top civilian leader. Such behaviour is unacceptable.

The "threat" references the occasional missile attack from Yemen, a country that Saudi Arabia has blockaded and bombed into a situation of dire instability and poverty for over three years.

'We will find the right way and at the right time to respond to this, ' he warned. While the Gulf states may want to see the U.S. and Israel try to cut Iran to size, I don't think they want to get dragged into a direct confrontation themselves.

"Speaking to Radio Sputnik's Loud & Clear, Kevin Kamps, the radioactive waste watchdog at the organization Beyond Nuclear, called Trump's decision to part ways with the nuke deal "the worst broken deal ever".

Saudi Arabia is not only one of Iran's major foes in the Middle East, but they are also leading the US-backed Arab alliance to reinstate the internationally-recognised Yemeni government, led by President Abd Rabbu Mansour al-Hadi, who lives in exile in Riyadh.

Speaking after Iranian forces in Syria fired missiles into the disputed Golan Heights he said: "These missiles in Yemen are Iranian manufactured and delivered to the Huthis". Earlier, the military said it had intercepted two missiles fired across the border at southern Jizan province, hundreds of miles from Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia also protested Iran's growing foothold in the Middle East. "An aggressive Iran was emboldened as a result & its ballistic missile program became both offensive & exportable".

"We have repeatedly said that Iran needs to seriously reconsider its approach if it truly wanted to establish good neighborly ties with Arab countries", he stated.
