Unfortunately, its release on the the doomed Dreamcast console meant that few people played it, or its sequel, in their original forms, although Shenmue II did see a further release on the original Xbox. The series faltered when sales of the games did not cover the huge cost of developing them (estimates go as high as US$70 million).

SEGA has just announced that the first Shenmue games, Shenmue 1 and 2, will be officially coming to the PC in 2018 in one package.

Re-releasing both games seems to be in preparation for the third entry in the series, which was originally revealed as a Kickstarter project back during Sony's E3 2015 conference.

We'll keep an eye out for any updates. Not only has Sega offered to re-release the original two games on new platforms with remastered visuals, a choice of modern or classic controls, and the option to listen to either the Japanese or English voiceovers, but there is also Shenmue III on the horizon.

These revolutionary masterpieces deliver a gripping story of retribution as Ryo Hazuki sets out to avenge his father's death and attempts to unravel the secrets behind a mysterious artefact known as the Dragon Mirror. The title is set in a real-time open world that that includes proper day-and-night cycles and weather changes.
