Brassner was transported to a nearby hospital but declared dead shortly thereafter.

Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said in a press conference four firefighters received "non-life-threatening" injuries, two with burns and two with other kinds of injuries. The legislation was stimulated on by a significant fire in a so-called "fire-resistant" home block without any sprinklers on NY city's Upper West Side the previous December, and another in a Brooklyn housing project the very same month where corridor sprinklers stopped working.

It was knocked down in approximately an hour, he said.

The call came in at about 5:35 p.m. Six firefighters were injured, none seriously, before the blaze was put out.

There were no evacuations, though some residents left on their own, Nigro confirmed.

Inning accordance with The New York City Times, Mr. Trump was among the designers in the late 1990s who lobbied versus sprinklers in structures.

The Twitter user "Leigh" was admittedly correct that Trump Tower lacks sprinklers. "He couldn't have already been nicer", real-estate agent Dolly Lenz, who offered him that the flat, told The New York Post. Six firefighters were also injured in the fire, ABC reported.

Early talks for the proposed bill suggested that all residential buildings be required to install sprinklers, which irked developers, including Trump.

The 1998 fires, which sparked sweeping building code changes, killed three firefighters at the NYCHA-run housing for seniors and four more died of smoke inhalation at an Upper West Side high-rise where child actor Macaulay Culkin's family lived. The U.S. Secret Service was made aware of the incident, ABC has learned.

Not long after news of the fire broke, President Trump, who was in Washington at the time tweeted, 'Fire at Trump Tower is out. He also stated that that the building "stood up quite well".

Nigro noted that Trump Tower is a "well-built building".

The fire sent thick, black smoke pouring from the windows of the skyscraper that bears the president's name.
