Free agent CB Richard Sherman to meet with 49ers on Saturday

Seattle Seahawks' Richard Sherman (25) eats turkey during a TV interview on the field after the San Francisco 49ers' lost 19-3 in their National Football League game against Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014.

Sherman dined Friday night in Los Gatos with his wife and Shanahan, as first reported by The Athletic's Marcus Thompson II.

Reports Saturday morning indicated it may not take long for Richard Sherman to find a new home after he was released by the Seahawks on Friday.

Sherman is now an unrestricted free agent and free to negotiate and sign with another team.

Sherman, a Stanford alum who will turn 30 on March, is recovering from a torn right Achilles tendon he sustained in November, an injury that caused him to miss games for the first time in his seven-year career.

Sherman is scheduled to meet Saturday with 49ers officials, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. One was a rupture that he sustained during the 2017 season and the other surgery was more recent and reportedly minor to remove bone spurs.

Sherman told Albert Breer of the NFL Network that "They wanted the financial flexibility going into free agency but expressed that they wanted me to return and will be in contact".

Of course, this is all dependent on Sherman actually leaving Northern California without a contract.

The talented, brash defender has been one of the faces of a team that appeared in two Super Bowls and won one, success built on a hard-hitting defensive identity and the vaunted "Legion of Boom" secondary.

It is not yet clear how the four-time All-Pro defensive back will bounce back from his Achilles injury.
