Weather service once again warns of unsafe wind chills

The cold snap is likely to be the nation's most extreme since February 2015, according to the weather service. Overnight temperatures will fall around -15, and wind chills will drop to -30 to -40! Wind chills tonight and Sunday will range from -10 to -20 degrees. Brisk northwest breezes throughout the day will keep wind chills no better than the single digits by afternoon, an impressively cold feat even for the beginning of winter. We'll be in single digits, close to 0, to ring in the new year, with lows back below across the state Monday morning.

A Wind Chill Warning means the combination of very cold air and the wind will create dangerously low wind chill values. Daytime high temperatures will struggle to reach zero.

Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, low around 0. Wear warm shoes or boots, and make sure as much exposed skin as possible is covered by gloves, hats, ear muffs, and scarves.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a wind chill advisory for Vermilion County from noon today until noon Tuesday.

Tuesday: Sunny, high near 13. Hang in there, for a long stretch of incessant cold continues indefinitely.
