Donald Trump changes story on reasons for firing Michael Flynn

US President Donald Trump insisted on Saturday that his former national security adviser Michael Flynn had done nothing illegal during the transition. Manafort and Gates have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. Some conservatives encouraged Mr. Trump to fire Mr. Mueller, saying the investigation was tainted. @POTUS now admits he KNEW Michael Flynn lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Flynn only held his position as Trump's national security adviser for 24 days.

According to prosecutors, the pair discussed American sanctions on Russian Federation and Flynn asked Kislyak to help delay a United Nations vote seen as damaging to Israel.

This would blow up about a hundred Trump camp denials that there was coordinated high-level campaign contact with Russian Federation, and would suggest that Russia-related actions personally undertaken by Trump in 2016 (as opposed to merely the actions of his top lieutenants and/or family members) are under law enforcement scrutiny.

Strzok and his lover traded text messages during the Clinton probe and the campaign in which they expressed anti-Trump feelings and other remarks apparently in support of Clinton, the Post said. That unnamed aide is believed to beTrump's son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, according to a lawyer briefed on the matter to The New York Times.

Flynn also admitted that he spoke with another member of the transition team before he talked to Kislyak about US sanctions on December 29, court records say. Separately, KT McFarland, a senior transition official at Mar-a-Lago, was described as discussing with Flynn what, if anything, to communicate to the Russian ambassador about United States sanctions, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Speaking Saturday about Flynn's plea deal, the president reiterated that there had been no coordination between his campaign and Russian Federation.

During his testimony to Congress in June, Comey said Trump asked him in February to drop the FBI investigation into Flynn centering on his calls with Kislyak during the transition.

In related news, former FBI Director James Comey has also faced scrutiny for knowing the import of former Attorney General Loretta Lynch's meeting with Bill Clinton during Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, but deceiving the public about the "matter".

Mr. Strzok's reassignment shows that Mr. Mueller moved swiftly in the face of what could be perceived as bias by one of his agents amid a politically charged inquiry into Mr. Trump's campaign and administration. Trump predicted Democrats who voted against the plan would pay a price in upcoming elections. It will now head for negotiations between the Senate and the House, which passed its own version with key differences.
