Hyderabad gears up to host Global Entrepreneurship Summit

The stage is set for the eighth Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES), beginning in this tech hub Tuesday with focus on women entrepreneurs and all eyes on US President Donald Trump's daughter and advisor Ivanka Trump.

Being held in South Asia for the first time, the GES is co-hosted by the governments of the United States and India.

The inaugural plenary of the three-day summit will take place on November 28 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre, followed by two days of networking, mentoring, and workshops, anchoring the collaborative environment for entrepreneurs to exchange ideas, create networks, and take their passion forward. Ivanka will lead a delegation from her country at the event.

Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant told reporters on Monday that GES is the preeminent gathering of entrepreneurs, investors, and supporters from around the world.

The event will primarily focus on four thematic sectors - energy and infrastructure; healthcare and life sciences; financial technology and digital economy; and media and entertainment sectors, according to its agenda. Katherine Hadda, US Consul General, Hyderabad, said the GES was an opportunity to promote women and women's economic opportunities, support entrepreneurship and foster economic growth and prosperity for all. "It demonstrates the administration's commitment to the principle that when women are economically empowered, their communities and countries thrive", Ivanka Trump had mentioned earlier in a preview to her Indian visit. PM Modi will be hosting a dinner for the US President's daughter at Hyderabad's Falaknuma Palace. India was given opportunity to host GES during Modi's U.S. visit in June. A total of 250 girls were selected from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and of them 12 participants will be short-listed to take part in the global summit. Ms. Trump would also be exploring the historic city of Hyderabad after work.

Addressing a press conference along with Kenneth Juster, the US Ambassador to India, Mr Kant said that Union ministers Sushma Swaraj, Nirmala Sitharaman and Suresh Prabhu would participate in the Summit.

On Wednesday, the Telangana government will host a dinner at the historic Golconda Fort. She was invited by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June.
