Romelu Lukaku is 'untouchable', says Jose Mourinho
Jose Mourinho has again defended Romelu Lukaku's performances, labelling the striker as an "untouchable" member of his Manchester United team. I think the point is scoring goals or not scoring goals because in the end some players sometimes analyse. We know we'd all like to see brilliant attacking football, wave after wave of attacks, but I don't think this team is possibly capable of that and I don't think that's the way this manager does it.
United have impressed this season under the Special One and are second in the Premier League as well as dominating in the Champions League. The centre-forward created his second assist in two league games, for Anthony Martial's 81st-minute victor, and Mourinho also pointed to how the player was hard for Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen to deal with.
"As for any issues around his future elsewhere I can not say anything else, that's not my place". The Red Devils only won on something of a fluke goal, with the keeper accidentally carrying the ball over his line on a free kick, and fans will be hoping for better this time around.
"But my job is to protect my players when I feel they deserve it and I think Romelu is one of the players who should be untouchable in terms of the respect from everyone".
"The players felt it was quite easy to win against CSKA and Basel and they also felt it was hard to beat Benfica, it could have quite easily ended 0-0 or 1-1", he added.
He said: "We played Marcus and Anthony together in Swansea, one week ago, so yes, they can play together, that's no problem. He's playing extremely well for us".
Jose Mourinho's side visit Basel on November 22 before closing their campaign at home to CSKA next month.
Manchester United are on the verge of reaching the Champions League knockout stages for the first time in four years after beating Benfica. We want him to stay with us for many years - he's from our academy.
