So Apple is banking very heavily on the fact that it's tenth anniversary iPhone 8 will be a hit - but a new survey from an investment firm has cast doubt on that. According to macrumors.com Apple has filed patents for magnetic induction, but it may require an optional accessory to be purchased with the new device.

The iPhone 8 is expected to launch on september 12 at 10 a.m. PDT. Existing iPhone users likely are holding out for a variety of reasons, but the main driver may be that the latest models don't represent a big enough departure from the older versions. With the iPhone 7 out last year, the company's previous naming pattern dictates this year's would be the 7S. Most rumours suggest that it will be called iPhone 8. The device will also feature all new hardware inside and out. So eventually, Apple just chose to cut the fingerprint sensor entirely and rely on facial recognition for unlocking the phone instead.

Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities says there may be three phones - two resembling the current iPhone 7, and one OLED model with a different form factor. I have personally given them the freedom to spend more time collecting news of iPhone 8 rather than spend time in making our own phones better. It is unclear whether the iPhone 8 will be part of the program.

Apple will nearly certainly shift the pricing of its iPhone lineup around to accommodate the new flagship iPhone 8 and the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus.

The device will also have wireless charging capabilities which are said to be faster than those now available. Still, iPhone 8 supply will reportedly be extremely constrained at launch so interested buyers may have to wait until November before they can actually get their hands on the device. The handset is not expected to come with a fingerprint sensor.

On Sept. 12, Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) is hosting an event at which it is expected to unveil a trio of next-generation iPhones.

Apple is expected to offer the iPhone 8 in black, silver, and gold (copper?) colors and 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage capacities, all with 3G of RAM. It's rumored to have a 5.8-inch OLED display, 3D camera, a new A11 processor, tons of RAM, wireless charging, and a tweaked design.
