Amy Schumer to Make Broadway Debut in New Steve Martin Play

According to production notes: 'Get ready for the unexpected when Norm and his wife Corky invite another couple to their Ojai backyard to watch a meteor shower in the night sky.

Martin specifically sought Schumer out for the play, and offered her the gig after tracking her down at a house party. Schumer will share the stage with Keegan-Michael Key, also a Comedy Central alumnus, Tony Award-winner Laura Benanti, and Alan Tudyk of "Firefly" fame.

Joining Ms. Schumer in the cast will be Laura Benanti (a Tony victor for "Gypsy"), Keegan-Michael Key (now performing in "Hamlet" at the Public Theater) and Alan Tudyk ("Firefly").

Amy Schumer will make her Broadway debut this fall in the comedy, directed by Jerry Zaks.

Directed by four-time Tony Award-winner Jerry Zaks, "Meteor Shower" is scheduled to begin previews November 1 at the Booth Theatre on West 45th Street, with opening night set for November 29. Meteor Shower is Martin's first Broadway opening since his Tony award-nominated bluegrass musical Bright Star, which closed last summer after a disappointing box office run.

Amy made the announcement on her Instagram page, writing: "I got to do a Steve Martin play in college and have loved him since I saw him as the waiter in the muppet movie".

'A meteor shower actually came to me first, ' the actor, 71, said.

"Meteor Shower" kicks off its Broadway stint with previews beginning November 1, ahead of its November 29 opening at Manhattan's Booth Theater.

"Meteor Shower" has previously been produced at San Diego's Old Globe Theater and New Haven's Long Wharf Theater.

Schumer is also set to star in the movie I Feel Pretty alongside Emily Ratajkowski, where she'll play a normal woman who falls and wakes up thinking she's the most handsome and capable woman alive.
