Manchester United complete Lindelof signing

Manchester United's lengthy pursuit of Benfica and Sweden centre-back Victor Lindelof finally seems to be over. They are also very close to completing the signing of Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata as things have picked up speed of late for the Red Devils.

Lindelof has been on global duty prior to his trip to Manchester.

The Swedish global becomes the Red Devils' first signing of what promises to be a busy summer at Old Trafford and he will provide extra competition to the likes of Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Daley Blind in central defence.

Lindelof has put pen to paper on a long-term deal with Manchester United after the Red Devils agreed a reported £30.7m move from Portuguese champions Benfica.

A number of Premier League clubs are reportedly monitoring Smalling's situation with West Ham, West Brom and Everton all interested in the 27-year-old.

Lindelof has been identified as a long-time target for Mourinho to add to the squad's defensive options.

"I know he is hot on the market so let him make the right choice, what fits him good".

Lindelof, 22, joined Benfica from home-town club Vasteras SK in 2012 and has won three Portuguese league titles and two Portuguese Cups during his time in Lisbon.

Discipline: Compared with Bailly, Lindelof is a more disciplined player with just 1 league yellow card in the 2016/107 season.

In an interview with MUTV, Lindelof said: "Of course there are some great players here in my position".

Nevertheless, it shouldn't take away from the fact that signing Lindelof, 22, is a great bit of business, as despite still being relatively young, he has amassed great experience at club and global level.

"I'm here to do my best to try to help the team as much as I can and it's always good to have other good players around you".
